Dollye Neal Worship Arts Academy

About the Academy

In the summer of 2006, at the urging of Dr. Walker,  Dr. Vozzella  wrote a grant proposal to the Dollye Neal (Ms. Neal pictured left) foundation to establish an arts academy for children and youth at First United Methodist Church and throughout the Midland community.  Following many months of negotiations with the foundation committee a grant of one million dollars, payable over three years, was received.

The late Ms. Neal desired to provide a safe place where young people of diverse backgrounds could further their artistic and spiritual growth through the study of music and creative arts.

Performance and creative oriented arts program which stresses the importance of developing:

  • Individual talent
  • Self-worth
  • Self-awareness
  • Self-esteem

 Our Philosophy

It is our belief that each child is a unique individual and should be recognized as someone special.

We know that children grow and learn best in an environment that is safe, encouraging, nurturing, supportive and challenging.

We believe that each child can be taught the correct way to play an instrument, sing, dance, meditate and appreciate all aspects of the worship arts.

Worship Arts Academy Courses include, but are not limited to:

· Singing
· Instrumental study
· Vocal and instrumental groups
· Art/Music appreciation

Our Purpose

The purpose of the Academy curriculum is to positively  influence the lives of enrolled students and equip them with the confidence and ability to succeed through:

· Challenging courses led by experienced  instructors that result in measurable growth and achievement.

· The interaction of students and instructors in which the importance of spirituality  is freely discussed and integrated into thinking and learning.

· Positive leadership from a spiritually focused faculty.
