Follow-Up Team Begins Work
By Randy Fields, Church Member and
Capital Campaign Leadership Team Member
Over the last several months the congregation has made many commitments to the future of First United Methodist Church. The most recent example of this commitment is the Yesterday-Today-Tomorrow capital campaign. We should all be proud of the efforts, sacrifices, and commitments our congregation is willing to make. A promise to uphold the church with our prayers, presence, gifts, and service is obviously taken very seriously at this church.
As the visible portion of the campaign begins to come to an end, we will begin to implement a follow up process that is designed to help ensure the success of the campaign. This process will include the normal activities involved around reporting on the progress of the campaign. Over the next few weeks, members of the follow up team will also be contacting church members who have not turned a pledge card. The most important issue to all of these team members is your understanding that our desire is not to create an uncomfortable situation for anyone. We have all experienced those moments in life where we have forgotten to do things or those times when we are unable to do the things we would like too.
The primary goal of the follow up program is to make sure everyone has had the opportunity to be a part of the campaign. If there are any questions, we will be glad to answer them. All that we ask is that you prayerfully, consider what you are able to give. If you are unable to at this time, we will respectfully thank you for prayers for this campaign.
Some have asked why go through with such a program when there is such a possibility that someone may be offended? All of us have had the experience of doing something nice for someone. Giving to others can be a very rewarding experience, Why not give to future of our church. The best answer to why such a program is with the size of a congregation like ours it is likely that some people have not heard of the campaign or did not receive the campaign mail outs. Implementing a follow up program will make sure these issues have been addressed. This is an opportunity to make sure everyone has the chance to be a part of something good for our church and good for our community.
